RE: Transporting the cats
...for what it's worth, our cat will only travel well in a crate with a dog next to him; otherwise, he pukes, and howls, and carries on. I know, it sounds counterintuitive, but maybe a puppy would solve the problem?
RE: "Saquatch" leaves 6 toed footprint !
...hmmm? This topic always fascinates me because of where I spent my youth: Happy Camp California. Bigfoot is a big deal to this town, and the Karok mythology has some great stories about the peaceful Saskwatch. Although I usually only caught a horrendous case of poison oak rash, my dog and I would go on Bigfoot hunts in the steep wooded terrain, and we found no sign of anything other than squirrels, grouse, bear, bob cats, and deer. I never once saw a mountain lion, but at least I saw signs of these sly big cats.
Given that, one could say that Bigfoot is sly like the big cats and that's why we never found him on any of our hunts: no signs, nothing. No proof, so he can't be real.
Then again, if I wasn't a gimp, I'd still go looking for him; this must mean that I suspect he's out there, and that's good enough to make Bigfoot real...
RE: Picking up after your pets!!
I can't believe how many stupid people own RVs.
...oh please.!, how long have you been RVing? I know this, ever since we got our camper, my IQ has been approaching 0.:h Keep this in mind, some of us bring our goofy dogs because they are the smart one. :R And, we need someone to drive when too many adult beverages have been consumed, we are p*ssing off our neighbors, and we've get kicked out for not following the simple, respectful rules of the campground.
RE: fridge cooling
blue ice packs are hard to beat when trying jump start the refer
...we do something similar; we freeze a two-gallon water bottle with the cap off, put the cap on when it's frozen, stick that in the freezer, and the temp will drop to the high 30s in about 4 hours and stay that way until we drive to and set up camp.
RE: Besides screen dining tents and bug spray, what do you do
...bugs seem to leave me alone; I think it's because I follow an old wives tale (?) when it comes to repelling flesh eating bugs: eat lots of garlic and avoid sweet foods. That and a little bug spray, and I'm good to go.
Anyone else use diet to combat bugs?
RE: Workamping for Gay Couple?
...you know, sometimes my wife and I stop at places that display the rainbow flag (gay pride emblem), because we know we'll get a fair and honest deal. I think that you'll do fine in the work camping environment, stick your flag out there and it may be an advantage.:B
Good luck, and we hope to see you on the road!
RE: Best Brewpubs---food and beer
...maybe you could try something like my wife and I are doing this summer: a growler tour. Every time we go camping, we stop at a brewpub (BP) on the way and have our 1/2 gallon growler filled. Thus far, our favorite BP in Oregon has been the Pelican Brewpub in Pacific City.

RE: Mods: Suggested Action For certain Subjects
Accordian to whom? :B
...to whom is it that you accord to play an accordian, or is it even a whom when it could/should be a who whom doesn't even know what's what; like who hasn't had about enough of the "alot" stuff and the fear of spell check that a lot of people seem to have; not to mention us wanna-be-self-righteous grammarians who don't know sh*t..!
So.?, isn't this all a big joke outside of some real-live technical/help issues? The real joke about RV.net contributors is how seriously we take ourselves.:R
RE: Am I just dreaming? Biodiesel B20 thoughts
...I try to put a blend of petro and b99 whenever it's easily available; I too have noticed a smoother running engine. In my research I found that biodiesel's solvent characteristics clean the fuel system much like a theoretical fuel additive would do to improve the efficiency of the fuel system. But that just my be our biodiesel dreams; others fear (dream?) how it will damage their systems even with the new biodiesel safe fuel components.
Now what about the real bad dream? I've been expecting petro diesel to leap ahead of biodiesel in price; however, biodiesel has kept pace in price staying ahead of the price of petro diesel: what's up with that?
RE: Grey water dumping - is it legal in YOUR state?
...disgression is the operational word. I have a water hose connection built into the cap on the greywater storage. Using a hose, I can be much more directional, less harmful to any surface area and perhaps a bit more stealthy.
Wikipedia has a pretty good definition of greywater BTW.
Keith,
I agree that discretion is the operational word; however, the discretionary abilities of us and our fellow RVers to know when and where it is an environmentally discretionary act to dispose of gray water is nothing I am willing to assume.
It's not a flaw by any means, we human beings are ignorant. I honestly used to think that waste buried in the desert would decompose in a timely manner; now I know better. I'm sure that there are still other things too that I assume are leave-no-trace practices that we violate.
I will only dump our gray water in a sewage waste reciprocal. After seeing the black waste that came from our gray water tank after a trip with the GEO Method and a Flush King, I wouldn't want anyone putting that stuff on the ground, so I wont.
So, I guess in the case of we RVers, let's hope that disgression (sic) is the better part of less harmful valor. :W
RE: Where to Go in Oregon
...if I could only see one thing in Oregon, it would have to be Crater Lake; besides, the place meets all your criteria perfectly: "spectacular scenery, wildlife, day hikes, remote camping and solitude."
Check out Mazama campground and Lost Creek campground in the park. If you stay here, make sure you keep your food secure! Lots of goofy, hungry black bears. :D
Crater Lake Campgrounds
...whatever you do, enjoy; you've got some great suggestions here!
RE: RV'ing music
Take it Easy: The Eagles
Ride Natty Ride: Bob Marley
Rusty Cage: Soundgarden
...and no road trip can be complete without Alabama Song: The Doors
RE: Stopping the 'source' of unwanted pets, is the solution
Hmmm.?, nice rant-worthy FYI. When I read this I got the impression that the underlying theme was that mutilating a dog so it can't breed is wrong; I agree, however, we own a non-papered German shepherd that came from a backyard breeder; so, to justify our hypocrisies, we had her spayed as soon as she reached so-called "maturity;" of course she was far too young; she was spayed before she even had a chance to go in "heat."
...now, we could go on a tangent and discuss how this damaged our dog's psyche, but I prefer to leave that in fantasy land: 'cause, who knows what a dog thinks or feels: right?
I don't know that changing livestock laws will do anything except force some people out-of-business. I realize that overpopulation of pets is a problem in some circles in this country; thus, we have animal shelters that euthanize "unwanted" cats, dogs, bunnies, rats, snakes, etc. We can choose to live with this, we can expect the government to do something, or we can do something ourselves.
What is that something that we can do to ensure responsible pet ownership? Hopefully, this thread will be a source of positive discussion that strives for solutions and stays away from blame.
